Bible Studies

In addition to our many Sunday morning offerings and other special classes throughout the year, we offer the following regularly scheduled weekday Bible studies:


Israel in the Wilderness
Mondays, 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m., at Cranmer House, beginning September 19.
[Will not meet November 21, will resume as usual on November 28.]
Led by Dr. Allen Ross, Professor of Hebrew and Old Testament at Beeson Divinity School; drop-ins welcome. “…episodes from the Pentateuch about the major sins and failures of the people, and God’s persistent grace. They are passages that seldom get taught in the churches.” – A.P.R.

Women’s Bible Study in 1st Corinthians
Mondays, 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at Cranmer House, 
beginning September 12.
Led by Canon Leighton; each study stands alone, drop-ins welcome.

The Psalms: Jesus’ Prayer Book
Mondays, 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., 2900 Cahaba Rd., Suite G1, beginning September 12.
[On hiatus – will resume January 9, 2017.]

The Reverend Doug Webster, a Beeson Divinity School professor and Teaching Pastor on the Advent staff, explores the Psalms, how they are used in the New Testament, and how they each point to the Gospel. The class starts on Monday, September 12 and runs through November 21. It is for men and women, young and old. Drop-ins welcome.

Men’s Bible Study  in First Peter
Tuesdays, 6:30 – 7:30 a.m. (sharp) at Cranmer House.
Led by Craig Ogard and Pierce Yates, drop-ins welcome.

Women’s Bible Study in James
Wednesdays 9:15 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Cranmer House, beginning September 14.
Led by Virginia Webster, drop-ins welcome.
An RSVP to Virginia by September 7 will help to ensure sufficient materials are on hand.

Sunrise Sinners: Breakfast and the Bible
Thursdays, 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m., September – May, in the church refectory, beginning September 15.
Hot breakfast served promptly at 7:00 am. Gather early for coffee then join us for a Bible study that will feature the Bible text(s) that will be used in the upcoming Sunday’s sermon. Short teaching and discussion, led by
Dean Pearson with other Advent preachers. 

Women’s Early Morning Bible Study
Thursdays, 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. at Cranmer House, year-round.
Based on recorded sermons and talks by the Rev. Tim Keller.
Led by Fran Cade and Rita Wright, drop-ins welcome.

Womens’ Bible Study in Luke
Thursdays, 9:45 a.m.  – 11:00 a.m. at Cranmer House, September 22 to November 17.
Led by Shirley Anne Stringfellow, drop-ins welcome.

Men’s Bible Study
Thursdays, noon – 1:00 p.m., in the staff conference room at church.
Lunch is served and the style is a combination of lecture and discussion. We study a single book of the Bible over a period of months. Though each class builds upon another, they are designed to stand alone so newcomers are always welcome. Led by Canon Smalley.
